WINTER IN GLENCOE

6-Day Landscape Photography Workshop in the Scottish Highlands.
Over the years, I’ve photographed many extraordinary places, from Iceland’s volcanic coastlines to the endless beaches of the Outer Hebrides. Yet winter in Glencoe remains one of my favourite experiences. There is something uniquely powerful about standing among these towering peaks as winter storms sweep through, watching fleeting moments of golden light break across the landscape.
This workshop runs from 24th to 29th January 2026, offering six days to explore and photograph the Scottish Highlands at their most dramatic time of year.
Winter here brings its own special rewards. The sun never rises high, casting soft, directional light throughout the short days. Combine that with moody skies, fast-changing weather, and the possibility of snow, and you have the perfect recipe for creating atmospheric and powerful images.
Among our locations will be some of Scotland’s most iconic scenes, the mighty Buachaille Etive Mòr rising like a sentinel at the head of Glen Etive, the wide open moorlands around Lochan na h-Achlaise with distant views to the Black Mount, and the steep ridges of the Three Sisters in Glencoe. If conditions allow, dawn light striking fresh snow on these peaks is an unforgettable sight.
Beyond the classics, we will also seek out quieter, lesser-known locations to create images that feel more personal. Glen Etive, for example, offers beautiful waterfalls and intimate river scenes framed by rugged mountains – perfect for honing your compositional eye.
We will be based just outside Glencoe village in a luxurious self-catered house, giving us fast access to all these areas plus a few others around this area of the west coast.
With only three guests on this workshop, you can expect individual guidance throughout. Each day we will spend time in the field developing your technical and creative skills, and each evening we will return to the warmth of our accommodation for relaxed post-processing sessions, where I will show you how to bring out the full potential in your RAW files.
Whether the Highlands greet us with crisp blue skies, shifting mists, dramatic clouds, or a fresh dusting of snow, there will be countless opportunities to create meaningful and striking photographs.
