Assynt Photography Workshop
A 6-day immersive experience in the wild Scottish Highlands

Join me for a truly memorable photography adventure in the spectacular region of the Scottish Highlands.

This 6-day, small-group workshop is designed to sharpen your skills, expand your creative vision, and help you produce your best landscape work to date — all in one of Scotland’s most dramatic and varied regions.

A Landscape Photographer’s Dream

North West Scotland offers an extraordinary range of subjects for the landscape photographer. We'll capture:

  • The sculptural peaks of Suilven, Stac Pollaidh, and Canisp

  • Sweeping Atlantic coastlines with sea stacks, cliffs, and textured beaches

  • Quiet, reflective lochs and lochans

  • Atmospheric ancient woodlands

  • Rugged moorland and expansive highland vistas

No two days — or scenes — will be the same. We'll combine classic views with lesser-known gems, responding to the light and weather to make the most of every opportunity.

A Personalized Learning Experience

With only four guests, this workshop is kept deliberately small for a reason — you’ll benefit from tailored, one-on-one guidance throughout. Whether you're new to landscape photography or an experienced shooter looking to refine your vision, the learning will be adapted to your needs and goals.

You’ll learn:

  • Composition – Framing with intention using light, line, and structure

  • Light & timing – Working with golden hour, blue hour, and soft overcast light

  • Technical mastery – Exposure, focus, filters, lenses, and field techniques

  • Creative approaches – Finding your style and responding emotionally to the landscape

  • Post-processing – Editing and image refinement using Lightroom and Photoshop

We’ll make the most of Scotland’s famously changeable light and mood to capture striking, atmospheric images.

Each evening we’ll return to our self-catering cottage in Lochinver, where you’ll have your own private double bedroom. Over a relaxed meal or a dram of whisky by the fire, we’ll review the day’s work, talk technique, and explore post-processing tips in a collaborative, supportive setting.

This workshop is ideal for anyone looking to connect more deeply with the landscape, learn in a calm and focused environment, and leave with not only beautiful images — but new inspiration and confidence in your photography.

What Clients Say

"This was my second workshop with Chris to the Isle of Harris, and like the first trip it was a fantastic experience. Chris introduced me to ICM during my first trip and with his experience, patience and enthusiasm, it gave me another outlook on photography to bring home.  Chris’s choice of locations and the best time to shoot, was invaluable. There was plenty of opportunity for one-on-one time with Chris, be it during the day or during the evening processing the days catch. This was a real great benefit and provided an insight into all aspects of photography.  It was great getting to know everyone in the group as well, great camaraderie, even when you’re fighting the sand and rain at times, but it’s worth it, believe you me.I would thoroughly recommend any of Chris’s workshops, to any keen photographer who wants to improve their photography, as I have had with Chris on the Isle of Harris.

Thanks Chris for a both trips to Harris, a tremendous experience.
