HEBRIDEAN EXPLORER

Coastlines & Creativity – A Seascape Photography Journey

Join me for a 12-day fine art photography workshop through the breathtaking Outer Hebrides—designed for photographers who want to slow down, explore deeply, and create meaningful, expressive seascape and ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) images.

We begin in Glasgow, where we meet as a group before driving north through the Highlands to Ullapool. From there, we take the ferry to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, where we’ll spend two days exploring the dramatic coastlines, hidden coves, and vast skies that define the island’s wild character.

Next, we travel south to Harris, home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With two full days here, we’ll have time to slow down, study the changing light, and explore the island's many moods—from turquoise shallows and windswept dunes to the rocky headlands that face the open Atlantic. Harris is an ideal setting for experimenting with more abstract techniques, including ICM.

From Harris, we catch a short ferry to North Uist, where we continue our journey with two more days of immersive exploration. The landscape here is quieter and more elemental—endless tidal flats, lochans, and windswept dunes. We’ll visit the stunning West Beach on Berneray, often cited as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with its vast expanse of white sand and turquoise sea. If conditions allow, we’ll also explore several remote coves along the west coast where Atlantic swells can create dramatic, crashing waves—perfect for dynamic seascape photography. North Uist offers a contemplative, atmospheric setting ideal for both traditional and experimental work, including ICM.

We then move on to South Uist, Eriskay, and Barra, where we’ll spend several days discovering the unique charm and character of each island. Expect peaceful shorelines, soft evening light, and moments of solitude that lend themselves beautifully to personal, expressive image-making.

After our time in the islands, we ferry back to Oban, and from there return to Glasgow for drop-off and onward travel.

Throughout the workshop, we’ll spend time reviewing and refining your images, with a focus on selecting and processing a final collection of 10 photographs that represent your journey through the Hebrides. After the workshop concludes, I’ll take those selections and produce a set of A4 fine art prints on high-quality archival paper. These prints will be carefully packaged and delivered to you in a custom-made presentation box, offering a lasting, tangible record of your creative experience—something to revisit and reflect on long after the trip ends.

With just three participants, this workshop offers a highly personalized experience, allowing for in-depth creative guidance, relaxed travel, and a focus on producing a cohesive body of work. Whether you're building a portfolio or simply seeking inspiration in one of the most remote and beautiful regions of the UK, this journey is designed to help you connect deeply with the landscape—and your photography.
